12 Christmas Tree Farms in the South

12 Christmas tree farms in the south

Posted by Catherine Seiberling Pond on November 25, 2019

Want an extra special tree this year? Then why not support a local Christmas tree farm?  We've made it easy with this list of 12 beloved Southern Christmas Tree Farms, by state.

There is something magical and seasonally inspiring in visiting a Christmas tree farm. And since most southern properties typically don’t yield a picture-perfect 7-14 foot pine tree, it is especially heartwarming to know we have many Christmas tree farm options in each state.

With a freshly cut tree you bring lovely greenery into your home and, in cutting off lower branches to place your tree in its stand, you will have trimmings to craft into wreaths or decorations.

Some tree farms are now also offering potted live tree options—which you can plant in your yard after the holidays and even hypoallergenic trees for those sensitive to traditional pines.

[Side note: You can also recycle your tree by leaving it out in your yard in its stand for the birds to shelter in or hang suet balls, or use the boughs as protective mulch for perennials or even to start a new mulch pile.]

5 Reasons to go-real this christmas

Sure, you could buy a fake tree and just be done with it (pine needles and all). But before you go-artificial consider these facts:

  • Fake trees may contain lead and other toxic chemicals
  • Fake trees are not biodegradable and do not benefit wildlife
  • Most fake trees are made overseas
  • For every real tree that is cut, another is planted in its place
  • Going to a tree farm creates priceless family memories..which is what the holidays are all about

Ready to get yours? check out these 12 Southern Christmas Farms, by State

We have selected a Christmas tree farm for every “Southern” state from Texas to Virginia. Be sure to share with us your favorite Southern tree farm, or experience, in the comments below.

Many of these farms also allow professional photo session appointments amidst their backdrops (call for specifics and generally ahead of tree-cutting season). Most offer hay rides out to the tree fields and many are also pet-friendly (leashed).

All will provide hand saws and wrapping, usually at no charge. Just bring your own bungee cords!
